2010 Cal4 Convention is in the books

I have to hand it to the guys and gals at Cal4 (California Association of 4WD Clubs), they really know how to put on an event.
This year we attended as a vendor instead of individual participants. It was a great opportunity to shake hands with people and talk to lots of folks. We heard some great stories and met some interesting people. It was an awesome weekend.
We were handing out the “I Off-road and I Vote” decals. Wow the reception of this message was outstanding. Check out the pictures below, there was even a truck in the car show that was sporting our sticker. We need to do more to push this campaign, we are getting there. We were introduced to a candidate for office that supports our recreation. More information will be coming out later.
We met all kinds of people this year. We had a chance to talk to Del Albright, met Marlin from Marlin Crawlers, of course got to hear some stories from Ole and met hundreds of other folks. This weekend we were introduced to Metal Cloak and we were very impressed with their products. If you are looking for some bumpers or fenders, check them out.

The theme the convention was to honor those who have served in our armed forces. Saturday activities were capped with a heartfelt tribute including honor guard, bag pipes, bugler playing taps and a reading of the fallen. As if there were not enough tears in the crowd, there was a fitting tribute and appreciation to Don Klusman (1952-2009) who passed away this year.

Here is a run down of the winners of the Jeep sweepstakes. The winner of the Jeep is all the way out in Minnesota. He was called when they pulled his name (11pm his time). He was asleep. Hope he does not mind that we woke him.

2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Keegan Armstrong, St. Cloud, Minnesota
Atlas II Transfer Case Brian Whitford, Oakley, California
Premier Power Welder Nick Repanich, Chico, California
Pull Pal Terry Taylor, Melbourne, Kentucky
BF Goodrich Tires David Adams, California

This year had a car show (open to all vehicle makes). Check out the yellow rig with the decal on the front bumper.

‘till next year.

I know its not a Jeep, but it sure is purdy.

Of course, Del Albright’s rig

These are the fenders from the Metal Cloak guys we met.

Our Friend Connie’s rig. We like her Jeep.

Best in class at the show.

2010 King of The Hammers and “I Vote”

King of the Hammers and “I vote”

The “I Off-Road and I Vote” campaign is on the road at the King of The Hammers event in Johnson Valley the week of February 8-13th. NORA is carrying the banner and will be representing the movement with a big tent where they will be signing up new NORA members and passing out the “I Off-Road and I Vote” decal. All new and renewing members will receive a decal. As NORA’s Pearse Umlauf says,

“This simple yet powerful message defines the core values of becoming a NORA member. We have the opportunity to vote for elected officials that share the same values regarding motorized recreation. For that matter we also have the opportunity to withhold our vote for elected officials who support limiting access to our public lands. Our goal at NORA is to identify political candidates that mirror our values then publicly get behind them, by letting our supporters know who to vote for. We can write letters to our elected officials until were blue in the face, but when we influence the person holding a public office; that’s when we make a measurable difference”.

We are so happy that Pearse feels that way.

If you are making the trip to Johnson Valley for the 2010 The King of the Hammers the complete schedule is available.

If you cannot make the trip but want to watch the excitement, The 2010 King of the Hammers will be broadcast live this year on Pirate 4×4 TV Live: www.pirate4×

California Jeep Authority wishes all of the drivers good luck.

For the volunteers, spectators and race organizers we hope you a safe event.
