We are not the kind of family that does anything fast like the guys running the Baja 1000. We are the type of family that does trail rides and rock crawls. The idea of doing 1,000 miles in my Jeep sounds simply ridiculous. My personal interests did not detract me from greatly enjoying Dust to Glory. The docu-movie is a sentimental journey following some of the race participants from the year 2003 running of the SCORE Baja 1000. The race has been going on for more than 40 years. Commentary is included from some of the folks that ran the race in its inaugural year.

Perhaps there was a little too much motorcycle coverage for my taste. I am a Jeep guy. There are 11 classes of vehicles making the journey. I would have appreciated more focus on the four wheel vehicles. That said, you have to hand it to those crazy guys on the bikes. They are insane. One of the storylines in this movie is around Mike “Mouse” McCoy. Most race teams split the 1000 miles into four drivers. “Mouse” attempted to complete the 1,000 miles on his own. The race turned him into a babbling idiot. Watch the movie to see how he ended up.

Fantastic camera work and beautiful views. Overall we enjoyed it. The kids even stayed engaged through the entire 97 minutes. This is not something our family would ever do, but it was fun to learn about it. When you can’t be on the trails, it’s always fun to watch others doing cool stuff. Enjoy.
